I’m on the way to the hospital, with my grandpa. I look across the street, wondering what the world has become. My grandpa has been sick for a long time, and this is my first time at a hospital. I lost my parents when I was about 5 years old, and my grandpa have been taking care of me since. I guess it’s time for me to take care of him. I enter the hospital, not knowing what I should expect. I close the door behind me. There’s a long hallway, but no people. The awful smell makes my stomach hurt. I have a bad feeling about this place.
I can see a white lady in the end of the hallway, giving us a death stare and looking like she wants us to leave. The lady approach us, she says “what are people like you doing here?”, I take a deep breath before answering. “My grandpa is very sick and need help”. The lady looks strange at us, like she knows who we are.
The lady points to the end of the hallway, “Go down there, and wait. There’s a waiting room, but for white people only, so unless you want to get arrested, I suggest not going in there” she says. We walk down the hallway and when we reach the end, my jaw dropped. On my right side there’s a sign saying, “Waiting room for white only”. I didn’t take what the lady said seriously. As a 15-year-old, I didn’t want to believe, that the world could be that cruel. I had an idea though.
