Filmanmeldelse: 'Green Book'

The Green Book was made in 2018 and is an Oscar-winning film. This film is about the two main characters Tony Lip (Viggo Mortensen) and Don Shirley (Mahershalalhashbaz Ali) who meets each other, and worlds collide. This film has many morals, but one of them could be to never judge a book by its cover. In this film you meet a famous, rich and wealthy man, and a man who is “poor” not actual poor but in need for money, used to the “hood”. If you saw the cover, you would probably think that the white man was the wealthy one. This film is about the two men setting out on their journey and ends up having an impact on each other. In the beginning of the film Tony lip were racist, but then he ends up having an African American man as his boss, while the nightclub he worked at got renovated, and sees among other things, how he gets treated when they comes to the southern states - beaten up, getting called slurs and denied in restaurants because he is black. Tony slowly starts to realize; how unfair it is towards the black people. Dr. Shirley also teaches Tony how to be mannered and write poems to his wife. And the other way around, Tony shows Dr. Shirley how to defend himself, and how to let go sometimes and not be so uptight. In the end they end up being good friends and Tony gets home to his family at Christmas Eve and one of the men says, “did the hottentot get on your nerves?” and Tony stands up for him. Later on, in the movie, you find out that Dr. Shirley is homosexual. Which also was not very accepted back then. Tony and Shirley have both changed after that journey to something better. It was a very good film, with good messages and moral of story. This shows a lot about society back then and now. Compared to racism.
