Poverty in England have not changed since the 1900s. People in England have a very hard time in poverty like the old England. What might cause these problems?
Gig economy and Thatcher’s leadership
Gig economy is one of the problems that is still present in England. Back in the 1900s people were employed with a poor income, in an insecure employment. Gig Economy is a term used when an independent worker, gets hired to do a short, termed job. It was a very popular thing back in the 19’ century. A man by the name William Beveridge the former English economic and social reformer, wrote a report to make poverty a less of a problem. First, Beveridge persuade the government to make job centers. In 1909 Beveridge made the government inform about permanent job options. He made sure that people who were unemployed received counseling about job opportunities.
Margaret Thatcher’s leadership was great for England. She made sure that the recession in England changed significantly. She got inspired by the report made by Beveridge. Thatcher and Beveridge were big figures in these changes. Thatcher led it with no mercy. She made sure nothing would stand in the way, and she would be very specific what she would do. Thatcher had a special way of leading the UK. Autocratic leadership was her way of approach her job. Normally autocratic leaders tend to often take on most of the decision-making responsibilities. Several benefits are causing this leadership style to be great, is their abilities to quickly make a decision without democratic process. That was great back in the 1900s, for her to just make a decision if she wanted to. The bad things about this type of style are, people begging to hate her, because of some of the choices she makes. It was not the case, as she got re-elected back as prime minister two times. Back in 1983 and 1987.
