"what is poverty" is written by Theodore Dalrymple. He talks about that the England people takes advantage of the government’s welfare system and England’s poverty. He describes how England’s poorest class are treated well by the government. His main point is that the poorest of poor take advantage of the government.
Some doctors from India and the Philippines were coming to England to see how England’s poverty was like. Theodore worked in Africa when he was young. In Africa he saw how Africa’s poverty was like, and that it was nothing like the poverty in England. The doctors from India and the Philippines did agree with Theodore, when they discovered that the poverty in the two countries was completely unlike each other. In Africa the poverty is like where the families work all day to afford food to their families. In England the poverty is "poverty in soul"

There are a lots of different thoughts towards poverty in the texts. The first text is describing the two kinds of poverty: material poverty and poverty of soul. The poverty of soul is so much worse.
In the second text they are focusing on child poverty and how some families in England are considered poor when they have to struggle to make everything work out. They do not have enough money for the children to go to school trips or get new uniforms when the old one gets too shabby.
