Brev fra Robben Island, 1988

I receive you letter from the 3rd of July, 1988, in September.

I am writing you this letter, because I miss you so much. Every day am I thinking about, how much I miss you and our family, and that is terrible only to receive one letter every six month, so I really enjoy reading your letter, and to know how your life is going. I have so many questions to you and our family, and I can’t wait to you soon will come and visit me here on Robben Island.

In the last letter asked you about, what a day looked like for me in prison. My life in prison is deeply boring, every day look like the same. I get up 5 am and clean my cell, and after that is there breakfast, we usually get corn porridge and corn coffee. In 4 hours, I work at the limestone quarry, where I cut granite blocks. When we came home get we dinner, every day is there old meat on the table. When the clock is 3 pm, get we back to the small cells.

I really hope that I soon will be released, and be a free man again, that could be amazing to come home, and see and talk to you every day. I hope that there, in the future won’t be a segregation between white and black people. I think that is too much, that black and white people can’t sit on the same side on a bench. And apartheid has now been here in South Africa since 1948, so I think and hope that is time to were past.
