Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela
Born in 1918
His father was chief
He was a clever student
Went to university to become a great lawyer
Middle name means troublemaker
He ran away to Johannesburg to find a girl
In Johannesburg he met people who fought against apartheid
He joined ANC
Soon he became one of the leaders of ANC- everybody liked him
In 1961 he said that peaceful demonstrations not was enough to change the whites, so ANC built a army
In 1962 the police caught him, and sent him to Robben Island. He was kept there for 28 years
In 1991 the government gave up against the protesters, and sent him out if prison
In 1994 Mandela became a president until 1999

Once upon a time, nobody lived there, and people used it as a pit-stop
The Dutch people changed it into a ground for not-wanted people
Under Apartheid, the government decided to change it to a prison for black protesters
The black prisoners built the prison themselves
They were put into cells, where they couldn´t stretch their legs
They got poor food
Many of them lost their sight, because of they couldn’t wear sunglasses
