The film's name is Billy Elliot it was directed by Stephen Daldry on 29th September 2000. Lee Hall is the screenwriter for Billy Elliot. The film Billy Elliot revolves around a kid living with his dad and brother. He grew up in a small town in northern England called Durham County. It was a coal town which means most of their wealth came from coal.

In the film, he grew up in a tough environment financially because his dad (Jackie Elliot) and his brother (Tony Elliot) were miners in a strike. The reason for the striking is because of ridiculous wage demands. It costed more money to dig up the coal than it did to profit from it, which is the reason behind the ridiculous wage demands. The miners, therefore, went on a strike in hopes of a higher wage. Durham, therefore, had no miners, which was unfortunate since they only relied on coal for wealth. Billy Elliot was always alone by himself with his grandma, who had early-stage Alzheimer’s.

While Jackie and Tony were fighting for the strike, Billy Elliot was fighting/boxing. Billy attended brutal boxing lessons. He was doing poorly in the boxing lessons and wanted to quit. His dad was extremely strict and didn't let him. One day when attending the boxing lessons, he got his soul sucked into ballet. He found it amusing and tried it out. He loved ballet even though he sucked at it in the start. He was the only boy attending the ballet sessions, which was mostly looked down upon. There's a stereotype/social construct around ballet. Ballet is feminine, and boxing is masculine. Males take part in the boxing culture. Whereas girls take part in the ballet culture. Society perceives males as stronger, whereas they perceive females as fragile, weak, and emotional. However, not all men are masculine and have this masculine stereotype bound to them. Feminine men exist, however, society perceived feminine men as not real men. Which means you were treated as a woman. The same stereotype glued to females is also glued to feminine men. It's in nature for men to be masculine, and that's why society looked down upon feminine men. Society also perceived feminine men as gay. Homosexual men had to live in a very tough environment.
