Billy is 11 years old, and lives with his dad, brother and grandmother. His mom is dead. Billy goes to boxing. One day at training some girls are going to practice ballet, and Billy finds it a little interesting. That’s how he got in to ballet, and wanted to be very good at it.
Billy wants to be himself, and don’t listen to what other thinks. But it’s hard when your own father doesn’t let you or don’t believe in you.
I think Billy is kind of cool, because he dares to follow his dream no matter what. Also when his father doesn’t let him dance ballet.
Jackie:
Jackie is Billy’s father. He works in a miner, but at the time he’s striking. He doesn’t have a lot of money.
Jackie doesn’t want to let Billy dance ballet, because he thinks it’s too girly. I think he would be ashamed of Billy if he dances ballet, and then some of the men in the town would say anything about it. You know, point fingers.
Violence:
I think some people use violence to express their feelings. If they find it hard to talk about feelings, then it’s a lot easier to use violence. For example Billy’s father who hid Tony. I think it’s because he can’t talk about his feelings.
