Under the alias "Jane Roe," Norma McCorvey, a 25-year-old single woman, challenged Texas's criminal abortion laws. When Ms. McCorvey filed the lawsuit, she was expecting her third child and alleged that she had been raped. She was compelled to give birth after her case was dismissed, nevertheless. Wade ruling and the fact that abortion is now legal in some places and people took to the street and started to protest
Many Americans will have a tougher time finding the abortion pill because of the decision to reject Wade. A study and advocacy group for abortion rights, the Guttmacher Institute, estimates that medication abortions accounted for more than 50% of all abortions performed in the United States in 2020, up from 39% in 2017. However, trigger laws that would outlaw all or almost all abortions, including medication abortions, are taking effect in 13 states.
