America is known to be a country full of possibilities, where people, regardless of social class, can follow their individual dreams and improve their life through hard work and strength of will. Through the history, people have fought for freedom, acceptance, independence and the possibility to influence their own lives. All this and at the same time treat each other with dignity and respect. Many people, famous or not, have spoken about this American dream proclaimed that this will only be possible if the American people help each other and stick together.
On August 28, 2008 Barack Obama delivered the speech “The American Promise”, which contained all of these major things. Things which Obama describes and defines as the American promise. The speech was delivered at the democratic convention In Colorado, when Obama was accepted as a candidate for the presidential election 2008. A well-known speech, aimed at the American population, which topic is the American promise, because of Obama’s referring to it throughout the entire speech. By doing that Obama also uses repetition as a persuasive strategy, as he mentions the American promise and the word promise in itself a lot throughout the speech. By using these repetitions it helps stress his point, and at the same time makes the reader more likely to remember what have been repeated.
