The text “Catch” is a dialogue between a parent and a child, it is written by Dennis Scott in 1990 in the United States. The focus of the text is the setting and the two main characters, we meet though out the dialogue.
The dialogue is happening in a Zoo, in the late afternoon or evening, this is e.g., shown by “Closing time at the zoo”. The Parent and the child are standing in front of an empty cage, when the bells ring, as a sign that it is time to close zoo. But the child sees something inside the cage. Firstly, he describes the cage as small, with thick bars, which looks strong. All this is happening in his mind, and it is how he sees the cage at the zoo. The parent only sees the empty cage.
The child, who is the one who is in zoo together with his/her parent. Is a child with a blurry eye, who has a huge fantasy, a child who can imagine things, when they don’t exist. It is a child who do not give up and believe in what he/she sees. In addition to that is it also a very emotional child, who is standing out in the end of the dialogue, this is e.g., shown when the parent is forcing the child to do thing, he/she do not like to do, it is shown using how the child says “please” many times.
