All children want nowadays, is to be accepted. Mostly by friends and people in school, but especially by their parents, and family members. There is not one thing that can be worse, than not being accepted by your parents because you are different from other children, or even worse their siblings.
It is easy to be in the shadow of your older brother, doing your best. but constantly getting told to behave more like him. It is easy to have an older brother who is liked by everyone while being an introvert who prefers not to speak to anybody? Should you fight for your own will and the things that you like to do, or should you listen to your father and become the person he wants you to be.

Nick Dartie is a ten-year-old boy who is shy and prefers solitude over being with others. He doesn't care for numbers but treasures words and feels awkward when surrounded by people. Nick prefers to be left alone whenever possible and instinctively runs from moments of violence. He never cared for sports, had no abilities with bat or ball, but kept his books in pristine condition.
