Once in our live, we have to choose which direction we want to go, and which decisions we want to make. You could choose whatever you wanted to go, you could go to school and get an education or get a job and make some money for yourself, so you could pay your bills and have fun. These two things are just some of the directions you would have opportunity to make. We all know how it is to be caught up in some kind of situation and get carried away, and everything seems to be all happy days. And then later on, we maybe find out that the path we had chosen might not been the best.

In”The Web” an abridged British short story, written by Francis King and published in “Best Short Stories”, Heineman 1995, we meet Liz who is a young woman with not so much occupation in her life.

At first sight Liz seem to be a very self secure person, who is happy with whom she is and the life she is living. But to me it all seems like a facade, because we find later on a very shallow girl who is so insecure with herself. We don’t get any information about her living place, if she is living in a apartment or home, we don’t know what she works with or with who, but we know that she can afford to go shopping and polish her social act. We know that she notice people around her, even though she doesn’t care who they are or what they do. She had on several occasions noticed an odd, dirty young man, but every time she saw him he was different in his appearance and personality.
