“The Man Who Loved Flowers” is a short story published in 1977 written by Stephen King. The story takes place on an early evening in May of 1963 in New York.

The setting is described as “The air was soft and beautiful, the sky was darkening by slow degrees from blue to the calm and lovely violet of dusk.” (line 5) The weather is in the upper sixties which is described “perfect for a little rooftop stargazing, if you're the romantic type.” So everything about the atmosphere is described very pleasing. It must have a lovely vibe to it since all the people in the story are standing in their doorways and smiling. It all just seems like one fantastic spring evening.

The main character in “The Man Who Loved Flowers” is known as Love. Love seems like a nice man. “He had that look about him. He was dressed in a light grey suit, the narrow tie pulled down a little, his top collar button undone. His hair was dark and cut short. His complexion was fair, his eyes a light blue.” (line 15) So he sounds like the perfect guy, who always dresses well and looks good, it’s like he has this nice aura around him, and everyone who walks by him thinks “He's in love.” (Line 10) So he sounds very well-liked by the environment he walks around in.
