I have chosen to focus on the United States, because I think the problem is biggest there. Globally there are more than 1 billion overweight adults, at least 300 million of them obese. So what is the cause to overweight and obesity?
For 30 years ago people didn’t eat out as much as they are doing today. When people cook at home they usually get fresh food and healthier food. When people eat out at places like Burger King and Macdonald’s they get unhealthy food. And 1 out of 4 Americans do that every day. The food is full of fat and sugar and has lots of calories. The food at fast food restaurants often appear “smaller” than it actual is. For example a Big-Mac weight 217 g and it covers almost a quarter of you food needs in one day. And the menus are much bigger than they were earlier. Nowadays you can get 2 liters of soda to a menu.
Another reason can be the fact that more work in America today is sedentary, and that means lees physical activity. For 30 years ago they didn’t have that problem because there was more industrial work. And when people come home they have machines to do everything for them. And many people's lives are often too stressed, to do anything physical after work.
