The situation is very typical, for a teenage girl. Rachel has got a new boyfriend, but her mother is not pleased with it. This is what I think. Her mother has putted her in charge of everything because she had not enough responsibility in the house, and maybe the mother is alone, and wants some help at home. Rachel has spent too much time together with Dave, and her mother will give her a reason to be at home some more time. She meet Dave at a party, love at first sight. They were dancing all night long, and he followed her home early in the morning. Her mother had been up all night, waiting for her to come home. That is one of the reasons why the mother does not like Dave.
After she met Dave she was almost never home, because she was out with him. Her mother felt very lonely at home, and she did not think that Rachel wanted to have anything to do with her anymore. It really was not Rachel’s meaning to hurt her mother, but she just was so deeply in love, that she could not see it. And as they say; love makes out blind.
