Analyse af novellen 'Your shoes'

This story is about the mother who doesn’t know where her fifteen-year-old daughter is. The woman lies on her daughter’s bed looking at her shoes and remembers some facts from her life. She writes a letter to her girl although realising it can’t be sent. The mother remembers how she makes her daughter to eat proper meals instead of “crisps and buns” and worries how she gets food now. She remembers what has happened that night her daughter run away. The girl is brought home drunk at three in the morning, the father calls her a dirty slut and she leaves her parents. The woman also remembers how she loved her father more than her mother because she had never much time for her and preferred her brother. She buys a pair of new shoes for her daughter in despair having a hope that she will come back home one day.

Task 1

Mum, why am I so lonely? I have home and you, I have a lot of things some people need during all their life, but I’m alone. The father and you are too selfish to understand me. You say that you love me, but how can I see, how can I feel that? If you love somebody you will never hurt him. The father shouldn’t have called me a dirty slut. I’m not like that. It is disrespect for me and for yourselves because I’m your child, a part of you both. The father could have controlled himself but he didn’t.
