Also when he describes his love for his wife, both to his wife and to Charles.

Smiths idea was, that every man was for himself. Nash tells that if they all will go for the same women, in this case the blond, then they will block each other. And the friends of the blondes will not talk to them. Because nobody likes to be the 2nd choice. But if they start going after the friends, the will with his words “all get laid tonight”.

He’s not a social person, he see everything with a mathematical idea. Then as it goes great with the math, he gets some social life. But later on, we find out that Charles, who almost was his only social connection beside his wife, isn’t real. In the start of the movie he doesn’t care about other people. But later on, he recognize that his wife is the factor that keep him going.

He suffers from a kind of schizophrenia. He sees hallucinations, he’s paranoid and see the reality as a different reality than the real one.
