I believe Nancy is right. It's better to live in a big family than being an only child. Most children seem to be more self-centred when they are the only child in the family. All three young people say that they use their brothers and sisters to get and give good advice or just to talk to when feeling down.
Ron is talking about the problem of being a boy and has two older sisters. He would like to have had a brother to share his own sense of humour with. He can't always do that with his sisters, like he can't take them to football with him, because they're not interested in the same kind of sports as he is.
Ron also says that he have benefited from the struggle his older sisters have had with their parents. When he became a teenager he didn't have to argue with his parents about pocket money and other things or at least not as much as his sisters did, when they were at his age. I think it's true what he says about he didn't have to fight as much for his independence as his sisters did. When you are the youngest in a family and you've got older brothers or sisters, you can learn a lot from them by observing their way of handling problems.
