Most of the people today have been through identity crises. Ofcourse the environment and the society you live in, is an important and big piece of the puzzle finding yourself. Who are you? Where are you? What do you like? What do you not like? People have turned so they now are materialistic, and that’s why we live in a big world, which mostly is based on consumerism

Daphne Gulver-Robinson is an English lady who is married to her husband Rollo. She is her husbands accompany on his business trip to the Far East. She did not join his business trip because of her own choice, but she did it because the family Gulver-Robinson should look like a real and good family - and she did it to make the image of her husband, Rollo, into a real family man. Daphne really wants to have a good image and that’s her goal with this trip!

The meeting between the other wives and Daphne is not very nice for her - she does not feel comfortable in the situation. She describes the other wives as very elegant and she wants to make a good impression so they also think that she is an elegant wife. That’s also why she made herself pretty specially for this trip: “She has tried to make herself attractive for this jaunt and has lost ten pounds and had her hands manicured; but now she sees the other ladies, she knows it is not enough”. In this quote, the reader gets the impression that Daphne has spent a lot of time making herself pretty for this trip. Daphne is also older than the other wives: “Daphne Gulver-Robinson is older than most of them….”, that’s also why she really wants to look wonderful and lost a lot of weight specially for this occasion. Daphne feels uncomfortable with the place she has been putted - she rather wants to go home to surroundings that she feels home at and comfortable in.
