Introduction - We are introduced to the old man, the narrator and the narrator’s assignment.
Rising Action - The conversation between the narrator and the old man, where they talk about the animals and the old man’s hometown.
Climax - the old man receives information that it is dangerous to stay. He proceeds to stand up and wants to keep on moving.
Falling Action - When the man sits down again.
Resolution / Denouement - The narrator walks away and the old man probably dies.
Conflict - The conflict in this story is within the old man himself. He has a struggle with himself whether or not he should feel guilty for leaving the animals.
Characters
The old man (protagonist) - Is a caring old man, who does not have a family except the animals that he takes care of. He has very strong feelings for these animals and cannot stop thinking about them.
The narrator (antagonist) - Is a soldier or somehow works for the military as he is sent to look for the enemy. He stops to talk to the old man and tries to help him get to safety.

On an Old bridge made out of pontoon, which goes over a river.
