Throughout a lifetime everyone face situations where one has to make choices without being able to know the consequences. Sometimes people make decisions without even being aware of it. Some choices can have an influence on life's path and the consequences of making choices can therefore be fatal and frightening. To close a door can sometimes be the opening of another – another path in life.
The kinds of choices that influence life are made by the main character of the short story Mule Killers by Lydia Peele. This main character is a man, who lives a simple live at a farm with his father, in an ordinary town where change is in the air. The main character has fallen in love with a girl named Eula, who he sees as absolutely breathtaking (l. 39). However Eula doesn’t seem to notice the main character at all, and in an attempt to catch Eula’s attention by making her jealous, the main character kisses Eula’s pale-haired friend, who he is really not fascinated by; but this doesn’t seem to help. Afterwards it turns out that he doesn’t have the backbone to reject the pale-haired girl so unfortunately he ends up making her pregnant and is now responsible for this, which ends up influencing his future life.
