I see many different types of themes in this text, but I have come down to what I think is the most important theme; the bond between parent and their children. The main reason that I have chosen this theme is because I think Ray Bradbury are trying to tell us something really important here.

Thematic characterization:

George: George is the father of two children. He seems very busy and that could also be one of the reasons he never really sees what is going on at home. He wants his family to be as updated as possible and that is also why he bought his children this nursery.

Lydia: She is definitely a very sensitive mother and is seen several times throughout the story. She also has a hard time competing with technology. Page five: “The house is wife and mother now, and nursemaid. Can I compete with an African veldt? Can I give a bath and scrub the children as efficiently or quickly as the automatic scrub bath can? I cannot." < In this piece of the text it is easy for us as readers to see, how she feels about this modern world, where you can feel completely useless because the machine are overtaking the world. This also leads us back to the theme that I have chosen “the bond between parents and their children.” It seems to me that it must be very difficult to be a good parent in this future, because there exists machines programmed to taking care of kids perfectly (even better than kids own mother). But that is also where one of the big questions come on for my point of view. Would it be possible to create a machine who can connect to children the same way their parent will?
