Børnearbejde og prostitution i Thailand

There’s continued problems with child labour, also in the extensive sex industry. prostitution is a big social problem.

In Bangkok and in the cities child labour is a big problem. Thousands of children between 8 and 15 years old perform child labour.

Prostitution is a general accepted in Thailand, and the police take it lightly. But the growing sex industry is a big social problem, a specially, in the popular tourist area, as Phuket and Pattaya. It is expected, that there is between 200.000 and 2 million prostitutes, and a part of them is children.

Many children live as prisoners on factories or massage clinics, where the pimps takes to the countryside and persuades the poor families, so their child, can get a good job in Bangkok, so they can send money home every month.

Thailand have signed a FN resolution, where they will fight against child labour. But the sex industry and the manufacturing plants have allot of power and bribe the politicians and the police. So there is a long way to go before child labour will be stopped in Thailand.
