The novel text “A Good Night’s Sleep” was written in 1993 by the author, Brian McCabe. It is about an insomniac man, called George Lockhart. One night when he was about to fall asleep, he heard a bumping noise against his flat door, which did not stop. He got up, and went out to investigate, what happened. When he opened up the door, he found a young, homeless girl who was lying on top of his doormat. When she was offered George’s son’s room, she replied with a hard no. She might have accepted an offer like that before, and someone had might done something hurtful to her. It could possibly have been a rape, or something else which might could have been just as traumatic, which might could have be the reason for her, not to enter George’s doorstep. At first he lost his patience about this young girl, and went inside. But after he had been doing some thoughts about the whole situation, he went back out front to talk to her. He stopped before he switched the lock. He heard the new couple next door, raising their voices, and then they went inside. George unlocked his door just in time, to get a quick chat with the man who lived in the neighbour house. He had told the young girl where he thought that she could go. After the quick chat had past, George went back in, looked through the window, too see if he could catch a quick sight of her. But the young girl was nowhere to be seen. The novel ended with the fact, that he climbed back to bed, closed his eyes, and immediately draft into a deep sleep. But then he heard the noise again, soft but insistent. And then he was ready for a night of insomnia as well.
