Social networking is very common among young people nowadays, and more and more are now online at arguably the most famous online website Facebook. But is it really good for us to be as much online as we are, or is it really bad to us. These are some of the things I will review in this essay. I will also take a look at an article in which Facebook appears from a positive site, and I will look at the advantages and disadvantages of social networking.
In the article #How Facebook addiction is damaging your child´s brain” the author Susan Greenfield comes with many arguments for why we should not use the internet sites like Facebook, Twitter etc. SG believes that e.g. Facebook damage our relationship with other people and that we can’t take responsibility for our own actions when it comes to conversing with other individuals on the internet.
“Can you imagine a world without long-term relationship, where people are unable to understand the consequences of their actions or empathies with one another”
SG believes that one of the big problems is that we become friends with other people through a computer screen, and she thinks (like me) that it’s not optimally. When friendships are made through a computer you don’t learn some of the things that are important to be clear of, when you speak to other people. Precisely two things are very important; such as indicate others body language, or interpret their tone of voice. These are some of the things you simply can´t learn through a computer and therefore you can´t know if people say something in an ironic tone, and they therefore mean what they say in fun.
