What is the name of the film, and who plays the main characters?
The film is called “Rabbit Proof Fence”. The main characters are Molly, Daisy and Gracie.
What was the theme of the film, and where did it take place?
The themes of the film were aboriginal culture, family bond, the separation, courage, racist, stolen generations, and half-caste. It took place in Jigalong, a camp at Moore River, and the trip by Rabbit Proof Fence. It is all in Western Australia in 1931.
What were the film makers trying to tell us, and were they successful?
They were trying to tell, how children really can suffer, when they have been taken from their family, and how greedy the white people were, when they took them without permission from the parents. They also tried to tell us, that anyone can go that far just to reach their gold. In Molly’s case they had to walk 1500 miles just to reach their home. For me the film makers were successful with telling that.
Did you learn anything from this movie, and what was it?
I learned, that half-castes children’s are half white and half aboriginal, and I also learned, that the white people took the half-castes, so that they could learn about the white’s culture. The white people did this, because they thought, that the aboriginal peoples were a danger to themselves. They controlled their future, because they wanted them to be more white than black, so that the next generations would be white.
