They Sold My SisterThe short story is about a girl named Naliki from Kenya telling a story about something that happened in her life, when she was 10 years old. Today she is 12 years and telling her story.

Naliki tells about when her mother and father sold her sister Nyamalo to an old man, for her to be his wife.

Nyamalo was at a junior secondary school when she was sold, so she didn’t have any idea of what was going on. When the deal was made and the money paid Nyamalo’s father ask his older son, Nyamalo’s brother, Tumuka, to pick Nyamalo up at her school and send her to her soon-to-be husband. The brother refuses to do this to his baby sister, telling his father that he think it is wrong and that his sister should be able to choose her own husband and he doesn’t support any of this.

But even though the brother refuses, the sister gets married to Ole Sirayo.

At their wedding night Nyamalo didn’t wanted to sleep in the same bed as Ole and she crawled into her sister’s bed. Ole comes and tries to pull her out of the bed. She screamed and so did Naliki. The next day Naliki want to go home, she doesn’t want to be there anymore.
