Amish people have arrived near Lancaster Country, Pennsylvania around 1730, which was the first group of Amish people. They have settled in 24 states in US, Canada and Central America, where 80 % are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. Before Amish people settled in US, they have been living in Europe, where they were isolated. They have for example lived in Switzerland, France, Germany and Netherlands, where the Amish people were scattered. The Amish population is about 150.000 and they are still growing. Normally, a family has about 7 children on average, and a church member retention rate of 80 %.

Amish people are Christians, and they read the Bible, because it is very important for them to learn about what their religion is about. The most important thing for Amish people is the family, it is very normal for them to have 7-10 children per family. Amish people get only married with Amish people, and they do not get marry with a person who is not Amish. It is possible to convert to Amish, but it does not happen that often. The man is one of the most important things in the family, and if there happens something, then it is more normal to contact the man.
