Why did I choose this topic?I choose this topic because I think it interesting how they live and how different their lifestyles are in comparison to mine. I wanted to learn more about their traditions and their way of living.
What does it mean to be Amish?
The Amish culture is a minority, there are about 200.000 Amish people in the word but most of them live in the US. Being Amish means that you widest your life to Christ, and said yes to live under the church’s rules. They have a lot of rules, but they really care about how they look and dress. Some of the rules are women have to wear long dresses with long sleeves, only on some occasions are women aloud to wearer a short-sleeved dress, but never sleeveless. They really care about their hair, women are no allowed to get a haircut. Men can, but when they get married are, they not allowed anymore, it’s a way for them to show that they are taken.Amish people have many other rules, but if they don’t follow them, they will be shun, that means that all their friends/Nabors etc. Will stop talking with them. It could also mean not being allowed to eat at the same table or do business with other Amish people.
