Marriage is the promise of eternal love between a man and a woman. Unfortunately it is not all persons who get married, that can keep their love going for ever like they promised. Nowadays people get divorced as they are getting married. Love does not have a final answer, it is only a feeling you are able to maintain as long as you are still in love with each other.

“Reconciliation” is a short story written by Polly Clark in 2006, she lead us to a woman called Laura, who is trapped between marriage and divorce. Laura is the first-person narrator, which means that we know how she feels and what she thinks in the story, and she is also the main character by that. In the past time she and her husband haven’t really spoken with each other, which irritates her. She doesn’t exactly know how to regain the contact with her husband, so she decides to apply for a job at her husband’s office. On her first day at the office we get the sense that Laura is very nervous, since she uses her “brilliant” time-saving ideas, so she can be assure that she won’t be late on her first day at work. She also has some nervous features, like forgetting her shoes and sliding her one foot over the other, as the quotes says; “I have forgotten my shoes” and “I slide one foot over the other”. Those features shows us, as the readers that she is nervous but in the same time a bit embarrassed, that she applied at his office, as an attempt to resume the contact with her husband. The few quotations give us a better view in how she is feeling on the inside.
