Everybody searches for his or her true match in life. This is caused by the idea that if someone finds their one true match, they also find peace and true happiness. The text “Reconciliation” illustrate this idea where the main character tries to get her true match again. Because with her true match her life will be, complete again.

The analysis part will include a brief description, where some part of the text will become analyzed and argued by quotes. In the short story “Reconciliation” written by Polly Clark, we follow the main character and narrator “Laura”. Laura is a middle-aged woman, who is on the pursuit of getting her husband back, before their upcoming divorce. In the hope of getting her husband back, Laura has replied for a job at her husband’s workplace. The story is about Laura’s first day at the new workplace. Laura is a very insecure woman she is afraid of opening up to Vernon. Instead of wearing her trainers, she decides not to wear them, because they do not match with the rest of her clothes. Therefore, she shows op barefooted for her first day on the new job. For Laura it is very difficult to act normal when she arrives to the workplace, she wants her husband so badly but afraid of confronting him, I am your wife. That is everything that I am. Help me, I nearly say (page 10, line 3).Laura is jealous of her husband’s assistant, Janny. Janny seems to have the perfect job, the perfect teeth’s and she looks amazing.Laura seems to like her new job as finding matching numbers. She is comparing her work with the real life. Matching numbers is just like finding two-persons in real life and matching them up and then there is 22:49, it seems like this number could be Laura in real life and she cannot find her match. The relationship between Laura and her husband Vernon seems very intense and weird; Laura is trying to show Vernon that she needs him by searching for a job at his workplace. However, in the beginning of this short story Laura does not tell us about her relationship with Vernon, she introduces Vernon as her manager and it is actually Vernon, which breaks the ice by revealing their relationship. Their relationship has changed throughout the years, back in time it was easy for Laura opening up in front of Vernon, now things has changed and Laura is insecure and she is holding back a lot. Vernon seems a bit irritating to see Laura again, Vernon sighs. This is my wife, Laura (Page 8, Line 31).Laura finds her job very entertaining and enjoys it. However, it bothers her that she cannot find a match for “22:49”, but she does not give up, and at last, she finds it, it was not missing just mislaid. That tells us that Laura will not give up trying to get her husband back. The main theme in this short story is reconciliation. Laura is getting reconciled with her husband Vernon again. In addition, to all the stuff she is doing, it is for her husband, it’s so they can reconcile with each other again. The story does not reveal rather they get together or not, but Vernon offers Laura to stay and she says yes.Laura uses imagery to describe her workplace; The desks are lined up like cars in a jam (page 8, line 10). Using imagery gives the reader a better picture of the current situation. This shows how Laura sees it from her point of view. This also tells the reader a bit about Laura’s personality, and what she notices, His name is Vernon. He looks like a turtle (page 8, line 23); When he turns his head his neck stretches and crinkles like a rhino in latex (page 8, line 26). We can conclude that Laura is a middle-aged woman, who made a mistake by divorcing her man and she now wants him back. The relationship between Laura and Vernon is not the same as it was before, but they can now begin on a fresh start. The main theme is obviously reconciliation, they are both getting reconciled and that is the whole meaning of the text, seeing it from Laura’s point of view and doing stuff to get Vernon back.Laura uses a lot imagery of the workplace, at the beginning of the story and that gives the reader a better picture of the current situation.
