Summary of 'If Only'

The story is about the Amish girl Polly, whose family moves to Texas to make money. She becomes friends with the ”englisch” girl Rose Ann. Polly’s dad don’t want Polly and Rose Ann to see each other, because he is afraid of Polly would want to dress as a normal “englisch” girl. So when Polly’s parents are out of town one Sunday afternoon, Polly invites Rose Ann over to give her a make-over. While Rose Ann is dressing Polly up, Tom suddenly comes in and he fells instantly in love with her. Some days after that Tom convince her to go out to get ice cream with him. Polly tell him that she don’t know if they can see each other again and then Tom tells her that he every Tuesday will leave a note by the signpost at the crossroad. Some months later Tom is taking Polly down to Silver Lake in his car. By the lake Tom asked her if she want to marry him, and she runs out from the car and hides behind a tree. While standing behind the tree a snake bites her and calls for help. Tom comes and saw right away that it was a rattle snake that had bite her, and that she needs help fast.
