Susanne Bier won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film 2011, her movie is called ‘’Hævnen’’
“This is a real Oscar Mum and Dad. Thanks to the Academy. What an honour.” Bier said as she received the coveted Oscar statuette.
The movie is called ‘’in a better world’’ in English, but the word ‘’Hævnen’’ means revenge, Susanne was very glad and surprised to win the Oscar. She thanked her family and she was very honoured, she couldn’t believe that she had won an Oscar. Susanne had already been nominated in 2007, for the movie: ‘’efter brylluppet’’ in English: ‘’after the wedding’’
‘In a better World’ competed with four other nominees for the title: ‘’Biutiful’’ from Mexico, ‘’Dogtooth’’ from Greece, ‘’Outside the Law ‘’from Algiers and ‘’Incendies’’ from Canada.
Susanne Bier is a famous Danish director, she is fifty years old, and she has made some great movies in the past 10 years. She was born In Copenhagen, She studied art and architecture prior to her acceptance in Denmark and she graduated in 1987. Today she has made 11 movies.

Susanne Bier's triumph in Los Angeles puts the director in good company. Only twice before has a Danish film been awarded an OSCAR – first time was in 1987 with Gabriel Axel's "Babette's feast", followed by Bille August's "Pelle the Conqueror" in 1988.
