Hooligans by Tim Sanders.The book is about a boy named Tommy Britten. He is a young man, almost 17 years, who’s living in Shiptown with his mom named Dolly and dad named Lenny. He and his dad share an passion for football and enjoy watching games together, but Dolly thinks it’s a little bit overrated. Tommy loves his dad very much, and learns a lot of football facts to make him happy and proud. In the beginning, are they going to a lot of matches together and Lenny wanted to take Tommy to London to a big match between Shipton United and City, but Dolly wouldn’t let him go and it wasn’t to discussion. The day where Lenny went to London, Tommy and Dolly watched TV and listened to the radio the whole day so they could follow the match. In the end of the match, fans and hooligans started to get violent and they had to stop playing. A lot of Skinheads, who is a group of hooligans, where there and one of them threw a rock witch hit Lenny on the back of the head. Lenny came home from the hospital after a week; he had been close to death and had to stay in bed. He lost his job and Dolly was the only one who could work, but she also had to take care of her husband. Many things changed, also Tommy. He became much bigger and stronger, but he was still following Shipton United but now in a more fanatic way. Tommy turned into a Skinhead and one day his dad tried to talk to him about it. Tommy wanted respect and he thought that people had respect for Skinheads but they hadn’t, they were only afraid of them but Tommy also wanted revenge. On a train, Tommy meets this guy named Tony who is the bravest guy Tommy has ever met and they became friends very quickly. But Tony and his group is a Nazi and one day, on a boat to Germany, he started shouting and threatens an innocent black nurse. Tommy gets chocked about Tony’s behavior and decided that he wouldn’t be a part of it anymore because Tommy wasn’t a Nazi or racist. Tommy came home and tells his dad and mom that he won’t be a part of it anymore, he tells about Tony and all that and he apologize if he had caused them any pain or worry. In the end, Tommy gets a opportunity to take to Austria. It was Dolly’s sister who gave him the opportunity and he was willing to give it a try. The books ends with Tommy and his dad is going to a football mach together and Tommy is looking forward to see something new and that makes him happy for the first time in months.
