The tourist magazine editor Marge Turner has fallen in love, with the Denmark and its people. But was does Denmark special, from other countries she has visited? We don’t have warm weather, beautiful mountains or cultural wonders.
One of the things she loves about Denmark is the Danes all seem to be smiling. Why are we smiling? I think it’s a combination of good upbringing and happiness. Danes have all learned from their young days that a smile can save another persons day, or at least I have. But you don’t have the energy to do it, unless you have control over your own life and are happy. It’s a known fact that Danes are the happiest people in the world, but why? I think you can find most of the reasons in the way we run the country.
In Denmark most people have a socialistic way of thinking. It’s very different from the United States where I assume Marge Turner is from. They have a more liberalistic point of view. If you compare Denmark to USA, no matter if it’s Helle Thorning Schmidt or Lars Løkke Rasmussen, who is our leader, Americans have more control over their own life. They don’t pay as high taxes as we do here in Denmark, but on the other way they don’t get the same social services for free as Danes do. It can be medical help and more help than in America if you lose your job.
