Analyse af 'The Golden Compass', kapitel 10

The story is about Lyra who was given the alethiometer also called the Golden Compass, the Golden Compass was a device there was able to tell the truth from lies; it was given to her by the master of Jordan college, which was her home as well. She leaves with the cruel Mrs. Coulter to the north, she discover later that Mrs. Coulter is her own mother. Later she escapes Mrs. Coulter and travel with the Gyptians to the north instead

John Faa and the other Gyptians decided to go to trollesund because they needed to speak with the consul of witches about joining them in their fight to take the children back. Lyra was going seasick of the long sail to trollesund, some few days later the party arrived to trollesund, even though for Lyra it was feeling like they have been sailing for months. They arrived at a little harbour, you could see the tall snow covered mountains in the background, while snow was falling down from the little clouds which covered the sky, the air was filled with the smell of fish and some animal cent that Lyra not quite could figure out what was. Once there, they visited Dr. Lanselius (the witch consul) at his dome. He tells them of an organization, called the General Oblation, which smuggles children somewhere near trollesund, he advises them to get an armored bear. He tells them where they can find one, he also talk with Lyra about her Golden Compass and test her to see if she knows how to use it, which she passed. They headed to the bar, where the bear should be staying when he is not working, they find the bear, Iorek Byrnison, and they asks him why he is here in the back of a bar, and he says that his armor was stolen, and he needs the hire in order to buy his armor back.
