Ethel is a woman in the middle of her sixties, she has a lot of energy and is an optimist. She does everything she can in her power to keep her husband everyone around her happy, especially her husband Norman. An example of this is when she comforts her daughter Chelsea and Norman in the start of the movie.

Norman is 67 years old and is married to Ethel, he is a very grumpy man and feels that he is old and useless. He dislikes the thought of his age and doesn’t like to get remained of anything that is related to his age. We see this when Norman almost sets the house on fire. He cant accept that its his fault and therefore he tries to turn the blame on the young child Billy because he made a mess of turning the fire off. Norman is also suffering a heart diseases and short-term memory. These diseases are far more common when you reach Normans age. Norman and Ethel aren’t so modern they live in a cabin the wood and doesn’t use that much technology, a typical day for them is just relaxing and talking.
