Your mother and father are the most important people in your life, therefore can it be hard for the child/children, if their parents deicide to spilt up, because of the rift, that could happen between the them. If there are a rift between the parents, the child/children could be torn between its parents, and will try to keep both sides happy, which can be emotionally hard, with is showed in Elizabeth Baines` short story “Compass And Torch” in which a little boy is longing for his father, which has not really been a part of his life since the parents separation.

The narrator in this short story is an omniscient third person, who for the most time takes the point of view of the boy. (“When they were ready for off she put her head in through the car window, and her eyes were bulging and wobbly with tears, and he thought he couldn’t bear this: that this moment which he had looked forward to, longed for, as his moment of joy, was a moment of sadness for her.”, (page 9, line 108-111)) this quote shows, how much the boy has been longing for his father, and tells us that the mother and father, do not get along very well.
