”I have now served you for many years, my friend. But it is now time for me to move on. As I have worked for you, I’ve seen life in a different way. I need to find something better to do. I’m tired of living life this boring. I need excitement! I want to live life on the edge! I want to see the world!” Art2 said. “But you’re a robot, Art2? I bought you! I brought you into my home! I made you the robot you are today! Please stay!” I replied to him, even though I knew that he had become more than just a robot. He had become so much more. It felt like he was an actual human being, he was like a brother to me, and the thought of not having that brother in my life was just too painful. “I’m sorry” Art2 replied in his metallic robot voice, and he went out of the lounge mumbling some strange noises. I went after him “Art2, Is there something wrong?” I asked concerned. “Nothing is wrong, I have to leave” he replied, and as he went the sun was coming down. It became night, and as I was there, in my living room all alone without anyone to talk to, without my robot-brother, I started to think… where could he have gone? I went out to my car, started it up and drove out in the city looking for him. It was dark everywhere. The entire city lights had been turned off by some unknown reason. Only a few lights flickered from time to time. I drove downtown looking for him, and suddenly behind a trash can, down in an alley, I saw something rumble. I stopped the car and went down the alley and to my own disappointment, a cat started to attack me. After getting it off of me, I went back to my car, and as I drove, I heard a strange sound from the back of the trunk. I stopped the car once again, and opened the trunk. A gun was pointed at me by a hand that was gloved, and as I was stepping backwards, a hooded man came out of the trunk. “Give me your money or your life” he said with a deep and creepy/unclear voice. “What do you want?” I asked with a bit shaken voice. “Didn’t I make myself clear before? I want your money! And since you’re such a smartass, I want your car too!” the hooded man said. I gave him my wallet and my car keys, and he drove off. Now I was lonely, AND I needed a car and money. As I was walking down the street, I passed an electronic store. I looked inside the window and saw the hooded man. As he was stealing batteries and other electronic devices, I thought of calling the police. And no, the hooded man didn’t steal my phone. The police came within 5 minutes and I explained the situation, and the hooded man was arrested, and as the hooded man came out and was cuffed, I found out that the hooded man was not really a man. It was Art2. Filled with disappointment I went home. The next day, I found a box outside my door. A little mini robot was inside. It was a gift, from the electronics store. A “thank you for saving our store”-gift. I took the robot, removed the battery, and threw the robot in the trash can. Better to live alone by myself, than being betrayed by someone you began to care about. It’s funny how you would think that a mechanical device, a robot, couldn’t have a mind of its own, but then again… nothing is impossible.
