The text is about David Beckham, who I believe is the most well-known football player in the world, and the most interesting for the media, but that isn’t because of his performances on the pitch. I don’t doubt that he’s a good footballer, but I believe that there’s many other, who’d do better in the field. His success became reality through football, but his fortune comes from advertisements. He has become the best marketing machine in the sports world since Michael Jordan. The Adidas football boot is the most sold in the world. Vodafone increased their sales by one third, by using Beckham as their international face. According to Interbrand, Beckham is worth £50 million. He’s being paid £2 by each of Pepsi and Vodafone. And his fame will continue to grow, according to Interbrand’s chairman. Everyone wants a piece of Beckham. By June 18 Real Madrid made a play for Beckham, doing a transfer payment of £25 million to Manchester United and a payment of £4.2 million a year to Beckham. Real Madrid wanted him for both his feet and face, as he could be their passport to Asia, as Manchester United has 17 million fans, Beckham could convert approximately 5 million of those fans into fans of Real Madrid instead.
