Justice: A Discussion of its Meaning and the Death Penalty

Justice. I think it’s a difficult word to define, it is very wide, and there are so many people with different views about it. But there’s one thing, I believe that everybody would agree on, justice is something we need, to keep our society running. Without it, everything would fall apart. But what is justice? For me, justice is among other things, when I get scolded by my mom and dad, for doing something bad, and credit for doing something good. Justice is something we all deserve, whether it’s on the good or the bad way. Justice is among other, exerted by the judge in court. If I’ve done a crime, and I have to go to court, the judge will decide my just sentence. But still, a lot of people have different thoughts about what is fair, and what is not. Death penalty for example, personally I think it’s everything but justice. Even people who’s supposed to be conscience and wise, think that death penalty is okay? I can’t take it, I think it’s terrible and I can’t understand how any human being can think that way. Kill a person who’s a killer? That makes us just as bad as them, we’ll become killers as well. I simply cannot see the logic in death penalty. I mean, if I could choose whether go to prison for the rest of my life, or get a quick death instead. Pretty stupid question I think, I’m sure almost everybody would pick death. From my point of view a cold blooded murder should suffer, and not have the opportunity just to die, I do not think that’s a good sentence. Another reason why death penalty should not be allowed is for example, if the person is not guilty. Maybe he or she has been judged wrongly, maybe the person didn’t do the crime. But then it will be too late, the person would already be dead. People would be very angry at the authorities, if something like that happened. Back to the word justice. A thing that many people don’t believe in is getting a second chance, sadly many people would say that you only get one chance in life. But I would like to believe that sometimes, you actually can get a second chance. I saw this movie a few days ago, called Boy A. It’s about a boy called Erik. When he was younger he and his friend killed a little girl. They had to go in court, and a lot of people where watching their trial. People where yelling that they were monsters, and that they should be locked up, as long as possible. The opposing attorney, said that they simply where evil, and they were sentenced to prison for a very long time.Boy’s like these two, I feel very sorry for. They had a terrible childhood, with no love just pure hate. It’s so sad, kids like that grow up to be criminals, and create big problems in the society. What other choice do they have? They don’t know about anything else but hate and madness. I do not think that is justice, I do not think that is fair. The society offers a lot of help to young people with problems, but it is not enough. They need to learn about love and respect, and that can the society not always help with.
