The story takes place in the late 1900. The story is about the family Manders the mother Mrs. Manders, the father Mr. Manders and their son Charles Manders. They are in a car on their way to visit a private school called St Edward’s Preparatory School for Charles. The place around here are in a high-class environment, they have money and the way Mrs. Manders is looking at Margaret Spokes the headmaster’s wifes outfit to see which type she is are also tells us the way they are judging people just by looking at their clothes. It does not matter if we know Charles or not this big influence if he wants to go there or not. It seems like the mother (Mrs. Manders) is the one who has the pants on in the family, it is her who mostly is making the choices

St Edward's preparatory School is a snobbish school for young boys and girls who apparently have wealthy parents who are spoiling them with money and other form for expensive stuff that is why the family Manders wants their boy on a Private School so he can be more mature and ready for College and high school. Also, Charles are meeting his classmates, and someone is telling him that he is going to be mashed because that was what they did to newbies. This makes Charles scared, and unconfutable.
