Hey everybody, and thank you for inviting me here today.
As you probably know my name is Mark Rice, and today’s talk is going to be about entrepreneurship, based on my experience and know-how. As young business college students, you are maybe more interested in how I made it, and what kind of skills the job required of me. So hopefully I am not going to bore you.Entrepreneur faces many difficulties where some of them are opportunities to expand, and some of them could be your last move as entrepreneur. When Shakespeare as a storyteller ask the question “to be, or not to be?” You as an entrepreneur will ask the question “to do, or not to do?” And the answer of this questions will determent yours and your company’s future. If you didn’t know I have personally success by starting a franchise from scratch, so I am also going to talk a bit about that.
Anyhow, did you know that small businesses fail in the first two years? Well, it gets worsen, within the first five years where a little more than half of the newly borne companies fail. I don’t know about you, but if I knew about these numbers before I had started my career as an etrepeneur, I would be quiet depressed. I am not here to scare you away of course but I am trying to make a point. My point with these statistics is that you have to do your homework before you jump out in this jungle. The only reason that there are so many companies that don’t get the opportunity to survive more than five years old, is because their leaders or in many occasions their founders haven’t calculated correctly. Being the boss mean that you are in charge and every single decision will determine your existence in the certain market you are operating in.
