I think the poem that is made by Ralph Waldo Emerson is genial. He really understands the meaning of success. First he writes: “To laugh often and much”. And that’s really what it’s all about, if you don’t have fun, why live?
He see success as earning others respect, and to appreciate beauty. It seems like normally things, that you not very often think about, but actually it matters a lot. If you don’t have any respect from other people around you, then I don’t think that you can feel good, about your self.
To appreciate beauty can mean a lot of things. Maybe he mean on the outside, maybe it’s the inside beauty. I’m not really sure, but at the next line in the poem he writes: “To find the best in others”. That makes me think it’s the inside beauty, because that’s the beauty that matters.
He also writes that it is important to distinguish between your real friends and the false. That’s very important. It’s dangerous to let people in, if you know you can’t trust the person. Then in the end, you may get hurt really bad.
In the end of the poem, he writes: “To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived”. I think that’s a really beautiful way to say that success is to help other people, when they maybe fell bad, or having a decline.
