Jessica Watson, nominated for the "young people of the year" title, is only 18 years old, and has already taken world by storm. Jessica was shy and dyslexic when she was younger, which made school hard for her to accomplish. Back in her childhood she also spent years on the family houseboat, and she felt inspired by sailing stories, which may be the reason she took on this trip.
Jessica started at age 16 her training and preparation. When she was ready, she became the youngest to sail alone around the world in her boat called "Ella's Pink Lady". It became a 7-month voyage for her and her boat.
"We can all do what we want, everyone is genius, but if you judge a fish from its ability to climb in trees, it will think it’s stupid for the rest of its life. I don’t think it’s that hard, you just need to find the thing you really want to do, and not what everyone else thinks you can or can’t do."
