The Ku Klux Klan began in 1865, just after the American civil war. The Southern States had lost their homes or plantations.

The Northern president Abraham Lincoln made all slavery against the law; three months later he was murdered by a Southern supporter.

After the civil war there were many “hate groups”, one of them was the Ku Klux Klan. KKK was founded in a small village called Pulaski, in Tennessee, with a population about two thousand member. Pulaski was known as a rof city, with many outlaws and before the war the area had been dominated by plantations, and therefore about half of the population was coloured.

It was six former Southern Army Officers that started the Klan. Four of them were lawyers and one was leder on the Pulaski newspaper.

They wanted to call themselves The Circle, but John F. Kennedy decided The Circle name Kuklos, so they finely decided to call it Ku Klux, but they wanted to add something more, so they added the English word Clan, which mean family in Scottish.

The Ku Klux Klan was born. All of them were poor and they could not afford to make costumes for the group so they decided to use their old linens. They wore the linens over their backs and used the pillowcases on their heads to look terrifying to the black people and it was at the same time a symbol for the skin colour - white.
