Winston Churchill was born in 1874 at Blenheim Palace. His mother was American, whereas the father, Lord Randolph Churchill, belonged to one of the most distinguished families in England; he became a Member of Parliament the year Winston Churchill was born.
He was a representative for the modern point of views in the Conservative Party, and many had expected him to become Prime Minister. However, he resigned from the Government in 1887 and died a few years later.
After he had been at Sandhurst, Winston Churchill became an officer and later a journalist, for instance during the Boer War. In 1900 he was elected Member of Parliament; at this time his was Conservative. A few years later he converted to liberalism and became subsequently a member of the Government. He had several different ministerial officers, but he also spent some time in France, as a soldier in World War I.
At the election in 1922 he lost his seat in the House of Commons and when he was re-elected two years later it was as Conservative. He became Chancellor of the Exchequer but after that he lost his political influence. In the thirties he warned against Hitler and the rearmament in Germany several times but only few people listened to him.
