In the newspaper article ”My child’s IQ is bigger than yours” written by Carol Sarler published by the newspaper “The Observer” in May 2002 Carol Sarler writes about the measurements of one’s intelligence via the various IQ tests, and how the majority of people who are taking these test actually aren’t taking them for themselves but making their children take the tests, so that they can promote how smart their child is.
Carol Sarler believes that the IQ system is very snobby, meaning that it is a way of measuring for instance your intelligence against your neighbor and you score higher than him you are instantly smarter than the other person even if that is not the case.
She also mentions how in the United States in the middle class are generalizing their IQ scores as a conversation topic, although it mostly isn’t their own IQ scores but their children’s.
She also mentions how the Americans, mainly the middle-class, take their children to private IQ test and how the children sometimes will get a very high score on the IQ scale and then offered the chance to pay a ridiculous amount of money to go to the school that are conveniently run by the same people as the ones conducting the IQ tests.
