A young man and his slave are at a train station and they buy 2 tickets. The man has a seat in the first car, but the slave must sit in the last one. The man asks if he can't sit with him because he is nearly helpless without him. The man has the right arm in a sling and his head is in bandage, and he wear green eyeglasses. But they are just not a man and his slave, but 2 slaves who tries to escape north. The 'man' is Ellen Craft and the slave is William Craft. Even if they were some of the slaves who was threated best, did they want their freedom. They even were allowed to live together as husbond and wife. William worked as a cabinetmaker. His wages, however, went to his master, but his master allowed him to work overtime and he could get money for that. Ellen worked as a maid for her master.
Their escape succeeded and they came to England. They lived in England for a long time and they got kids who was educated in england, but they moved home at last.
They moved to Georgia where they bought a plantation. The slavery was stopped, but the blacks was still ignored and there was founded black-only schools in Georgia. William and Ellen therefore established Woodville Cooperative Farm School on they land. And invited poor people to live there, share their work. Ellen and her son taught the children, receiving very little payment. They contined until their dead.
